Tips for Blonde Highlighting

Blonde highlights works with almost any hairstyles, long or short, straight or wavy. The highlights add a touch of chic, edgy, fashion flair to your overall look. Therefore, it's important to choose the right shade of blonde highlights and once you got your hair blonde highlighted, proper care should be taken so that they stay beautiful and last long.

First, some things you should consider when choosing Blonde Highlight Colors:

If you are a green hand on highlighting, make sure you keep in mind that platinum shades of blonde tend to look less natural than darker shades of blonde. For instance, if your hair is naturally dark, platinum blonde highlights look somewhat more dramatic on your hair than darker shades of blonde. For a natural look, you should choose platinum shades. Or, you can lighten your dark hair by adding color so that blonde highlights don't stand out as much.

Another important thing to consider is to make the highlight shade match your skin tone and eye color. For those with fair to medium skin tones with light eyes, the best options are platinum blonde, honey blonde, and golden blonde. However, blonde highlighted hairstyles will look less natural on a darker skin tone with brown or hazel eyes. A good alternative is caramel highlights, which can lighten the hair without looking too dramatic.

Now that you've got the right blonde highlighting, it's important that you take good care of them so that they won't fade away soon.

1.    Use an anti-fade shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Choose those that contain no sulfate, phosphates, or parabens, to prevent hair color from fading.

2.    Once to twice a week, use a suitable moisturizing conditioner on your hair. Highlighted hair tends to be dry and dull. Ask your stylist to recommend a moisturizing conditioner that's good for your hair type.

3.    Be cautious about UV damage! UV rays can lead to dryness, as well as hair color fading or discoloration, so stay out of tanning beds and protect your hair from the sun. If you're planning to spend time on the beach or at the pool, wet your hair beforehand to shield it from UV ray damage.

4.    Use low temperatures on blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons. The heat from these appliances can lead to further dryness, damage, and breakage, which will make your highlights look less vibrant.

Hair Highlight Trends for Summer 2006
Last summer's blond look of antique gold is toned down for 2006. Look for shimmering hair highlights of gold, mother of pearl and oyster that glisten and shine in light neutral beige colors for the golden girls.

How to Choose Highlights That Complement Your Coloring?
Hair Highlights offer hair a sun-kissed glow and shimmery radiance. Vary the shade of blond depending on your skin color and the effect you'd like to achieve.

Trends in Color
These days, pretty much anything goes when it comes to hair color. Not too long ago reds were all the rage, and everyone from movie stars to high schoolers sported a flame top. It got a little predictable, didn't it?

Black Hair Highlights
If you have dark to black hair, you should not go more than 3 shades lighter than their natural color with highlights. In terms of lowlights, tones of red and tortoise (a blend of copper and gold) colors work best.
