Hair Highlight Trends for Summer 2006

Last summer's blond look of antique gold is toned down for 2006. Look for shimmering hair highlights of gold, mother of pearl and oyster that glisten and shine in light neutral beige colors for the golden girls.

Just brown moves to an earthy tone with darker mysteries of fawn and mushroom and dark coal to brighten and add depth and texture by contrast.

Hot reds will have a summer that the sun will envy. Highlight those red or auburn locks with raspberry, rose and claret or burgundy -- or go for the really red highlights with a touch of crimson.

The main idea is mixing different shades to create a pure blend of texture and movement that doesn't give away the secret of why the sun picks up so many different highlights in your silky hair. Keep it light and natural -- not heavy-handed. Your summer hair is a canvas and the blending of color brings you glamorously sexy hair that is healthy and alive with vibrant undertones.

Hair Highlight Tips

How to Choose Highlights That Complement Your Coloring?
Hair Highlights offer hair a sun-kissed glow and shimmery radiance. Vary the shade of blond depending on your skin color and the effect you'd like to achieve.

Red Hair Highlight

Black Hair Highlights
If you have dark to black hair, you should not go more than 3 shades lighter than their natural color with highlights. In terms of lowlights, tones of red and tortoise (a blend of copper and gold) colors work best.

Trends in Color
These days, pretty much anything goes when it comes to hair color. Not too long ago reds were all the rage, and everyone from movie stars to high schoolers sported a flame top. It got a little predictable, didn't it?

Blonde Hair Highlights
If your hair is light brown or even dark blonde, blonde hair highlights can add a tone of depth to your hair. You can weave in up to 3 different types of colors. Ask a pro about lowlights as well. If you have blonde hair, darker lowlights add more contrast.

Brown Hair Highlights
If you have brown hair, you should lightens naturally, it has to go through shades of red first. Thus red lowlights make your hair highlights look much more natural on brunettes.
